Audition Brief

Submissions are to be made only via email to casting@understudyproductions.com Please submit headshot and CV.

Call backs Tuesday 23rd 10:30am

SUBMISSIONS CLOSE: Tuesday 16th April at COB

 

Successful applicants will receive appointment times no later than Thursday the 18th. First round will be a solo sing followed by a movement call. Self tapes for the initial round will be accepted if the artist is currently away from Brisbane.

 

Successful applicants will be asked to provide 2 45-90 second cuts of songs similar to the style of the show (Golden age swing, and legit music theatre, 1940’s love film/Roger’s and Hammerstein style). Please do not bring anything longer. Do not bring material from the show. If successful at the auditions, you will be required to learn material from the show for the call backs.

Payments

Actors are paid a nominal fee guarantee with bonuses as ticket sales hit defined percentages.

CHARACTERS

 

Many of the following roles will be doubled. Many of these roles also feature ensemble tracks.

Stu – 18-20s, Bari-Tenor.

Boy next door who grows from scared boy to out gay man. Strong singer, dancer and good actor: rarely leaves the stage.

Mitch – 20-30s, Baritone.
Classic Leading Man with strong, legit singing voice. The soldier that everyone looks up to. He eventually becomes Stu’s lover.

Louise/all female roles versatile actress, 20 – 30s
Torchy, smokey blues singer. Plays all the women in the show, some speaking but mostly sung. Strong Singer/Dancer

Tennesee – 20’s, Bari-Tenor.
Southern guy with capability of violence. Strong singer/dancer 20s

Czechowski – 20-early 30s. Baritone.
Lovable dockworker from Brooklyn who’s everybody’s best friend. Strong singer/dancer.

Rotelli – 20s. Baritone.
Comedic fellow and immigrant soldier from Sicily Strong singer/dancer.

Professor – 20s.
Recruit from Boston (accent preferred), smart. Strong singer/dancer

Cohen – 20s. Bari-Tenor.
Scrappy and sweet Jewish kid who wants to kill Nazis. Strong singer/dancer.

Sarge – 20-50s.
Cussing, spitting Task Master Sargent of the platoon Non singing

Artie Goldberg – 30s, Baritone-Tenor.
A dapper, very sexual guy. Must be proficient in tap

Ensemble Men – 20’s -late 30’s to play various roles. Strong Actor/Singer/Dancer

PLEASE NOTE: the roles of Mitch, Tennessee, Cohen, Czech, Rotelli and Professor may require brief nudity. Most roles will also require era specific haircuts.
